HOSTEL

NERIM Group of Institutions has 5 separate well furnished hostels for boys and girls with transportation facilities to and fro between respective hostels. NERIM has owned a well-maintained girls' hostel inside the college campus with capacity of more than 300. The hostels have all the necessary amenities to help the students for a comfortable stay with a homely atmosphere.

 

HOSTEL RULES & REGULATIONS

'Hostel' means- residential accommodation for the students provided and managed by the Institute
'Boarders' means students who reside in the hostels.

Hostel accommodation is allotted on the basis of academic merit list. However, a student involved in any previous act of misconduct, indiscipline, violation of rules and involved in any political and objectionable activities shall not be eligible for the hostel accommodation. In addition, a boarder who is found to be involved in such types of activities shall be expelled from the hostel immediately with other penalty as may be imposed by the INSTITUTE.

Regulation Governing Boarders in Hostels
(1) A student shall not occupy a room without due allotment. He / She shall not transfer it to any other student, nor exchange it with another student without permission of the Warden.
(2) The furniture assigned to a room shall not be shifted to any other room. A Boarder shall be responsible for the articles issued to him and shall return themto the Hostel authorities at the time of leaving the room or hostel. He / She shall be responsible for any loss or damage to these articles.
(3) A Boarder who breaks or damages any Hostel property shall have to pay the cost of the article, in addition to any disciplinary action that may be taken against him/her.
(4) A separate room or any part of the hostel premises shall not be used as an office, reading room, library or for any other similar purpose by a political, religious or sectarian body of the students.
(5) The Boarders are not allowed to use air-conditioners, refrigerators, ovens, sound/music system, heaters or similar electrical appliances.
(6) Guests are not allowed to stay overnight at hostels.
(7) The Boarders shall be responsible for keeping their rooms tidy and clean. They shall not dispose of litter in the verandahs or other parts of the hostel premises except in the places assigned for that purpose.
(8) Meals should be taken in the dining hall only and meal timings decided by the Warden should be maintained.
(9) The Boarders are allowed to wear sober dress only in the hostel.
(10) The Boarders shall not keep in the hostel any fire arms or other weapons of offence or defense, even if licensed. Violation of this rule shall render a boarder liable to immediate expulsion from the INSTITUTE.
(11) A Boarder shall not indulge in any activity, which is likely to offend or cause disturbance, annoyance to others.
(12) Any religious ceremony likely to injure the sentiments of the other Boarders shall not be performed in the Hostel.
(13) Gambling, consumption of alcohol, intoxicants and narcotics are strictly prohibited. Violation of this regulation shall render a Boarder liable to expulsion from the Institute Hostel, in addition to any criminal proceeding that may be instituted against him / her under existing laws.
(14) The Boarders shall not tamper with the room fittings, nor shall they get the doors fitted with internal locks.
(15) The Boarders shall not leave lights or fans switched 'On' when the rooms are not in use.
(16) Hostel dues will be received on or before the 7th day of every month. Failure to pay the hostel dues as instructed shall charge a penalty of Rs. 25/- Per day.

 

ATTENDANCE

1. The attendance timing is 7.30 PM. The evening entry time at the hostels has to be strictly followed by the boarders. The entry time is subject to change with time, as and when required and implemented by the wardens.
2. Perfect silence is to be maintained in the hostel premises including rooms, bathrooms, dining halls, corridors, common areas etc. Every Boarder of the hostel should have the civic responsibility that he or she should not be a cause of inconvenience, annoyance or disturbance to others.
3. Use of abusive, vulgar and unparliamentarily language against the hostel/mess staff is strictly forbidden. Any The hostel boarders should not enter into any unnecessary conversation, quarrel or altercation with the hostel staff/ boarders. If anyone has any complaint against any employee of the hostel, a written complaint against the person is to be lodged with the Warden; complaint received from staff/faculty towards a Boarder will be taken seriously.
4. Smoking is prohibited in the hostel buildings. Gambling in any form such as playing cards (even without money at stake), betting, consumption of alcohol, use of drugs, narcotics, other banned substances, etc. and even possession of such things is strictly prohibited. Anyone found indulging in the use of such things will not only be asked to vacate the hostel but may also be rusticated from the Institute.
5. Day scholars are not allowed in the hostel. Hostellers should not encourage entry of day scholars.
6. Celebrating birthday parties inside the hostel rooms is strictly prohibited.
7. Collection of donation for any purpose (Religious/ otherwise) is also strictly prohibited.
8. Boarders are not allowed to play skating rollers and other outdoor games inside the hostel so as to prevent any breakages and accidents. Sliding along the hand rails / resting on stairs and fast running / climbing down should be totally avoided to prevent accidents.
9. Hostel boarders are advised to lock all doors at all times for security reason. However During vacation period or in case of absent for long duration the boarders should submit their room keys to hostel warden.
10. Water should be carefully used and not wasted.
11. Wrong entry, improper / lack of entry in exit register, signing on behalf of another person, tampering with the entries, proxy attendance and misguidance of any nature is punishable. In case of any quarrel between or among roommates it should be reported to the Warden for appropriate action.
12. Boarders are not allowed to keep any power driven vehicles (motorcycle, car etc.) in the hostel.
13. Students will have to submit a hand written application to the resident in-charges / wardens and take due permission before going home.
14. Boarders will have to fill in the details in 'Entry' and 'Exit' registers every time they enter and exit the hostel.

 

RAGGING

1. Ragging of students admitted to the Institute is totally banned. Any violation of this by the students will be dealt with severely.
2. For your understanding, ragging which is CRIMINAL & NON-BAILABLE offence is defined in legal parlance as, " display of noisy, disorderly conduct of doing any act which causes or is likely to cause physical or psychological harm or raise apprehension or fear, shame or embarrassment to a student in any academic Institution and includes:- Teasing, abusing, of playing practical jokes on or causing hurt to such student; or Asking the student to do any act or perform something which such student will not in the ordinary course be willing to do". Excerpts from the directions of Hon'ble Supreme Court of India in respect of curbing ragging in Educational Institutions are given below:
3. The Head of the Institution (Director / Principal, etc.) should take immediate action on receipt of the recommendation of the Disciplinary Committee. He can also take action a motto if the circumstances so demand.
4. Fresher should be encouraged to report incidents of ragging. Those who do not do so even when being witnesses or victims, should also be punished suitably.
5. When the persons committing or abetting the crime of ragging are not identified, collective punishment could be resorted to as a possible deterrent measure, as it would ensure community pressure on the potential raggers not to indulge in ragging.
6. All senior students, hostellers and day scholars, are required to sign an Anti-Ragging Undertaking form.

 

HOSTEL CHARGES

1. The hostel management reserves the right to increase the rental by giving one month's notice.
2. Charges once paid shall not be refunded under any circumstances.

 

TERMINATION OF TENANCY

1. The hostel management can end this tenancy at any time if: (a) the hosteller fails to pay any sums due to the hostel within fifteen days of the due date (b) if the hosteller fails to comply with the terms of this tenancy.
2. Admission in the hostel cannot be claimed as a matter of right.

 

SECURITY
1. The hostel management is not responsible for any loss of private property. Hostellers are strongly advised to lock all their valuable e.g. mobile phones, laptop, watches, money, etc. at all times.
2. Hostellers are not permitted to change rooms or sleep anywhere other than in their own room.
3. Any Hosteller who finds her room-mate missing for more than 24 hours, he/she must report to the warden immediately. This is to enable the hostel authorities to take immediate action if any untoward incident had taken place. Your cooperation shall be very much appreciated.
4. Pets are not allowed in the hostel complex.
